Overview

The Commission Gallery will be a place where I will “hang” eligible pieces of mine that have been composed, but are eligible to be “retroactively commissioned.” This is a concept I’ve been developing and that I’d like to see catch on in the field: namely, that works which were written without a commission be presented for sale as in an art gallery.

This will be done both in concert, and here on the site.

Additionally, I will at times present works that I have been planning with colleagues, but that still require a commissioning grant. Interested parties can get involved, and can become an integral part of the creative process!

One such project is the Moby Dick Songs, an evening-length song cycle of 7 songs: 3 for each soprano, and one duet. The texts are carefully chosen from Melville’s Moby Dick. The first song of the cycle was premiered in January, and can be heard on the Music page under Amours in the Deep.

Secondly, I will be writing a substantial 12-minute work for organist Isabelle Demers for the National Organ Guild conference next Spring. The work will be in honor of Schuyler Chapin, who passed away this year.

There are several other projects also in need of support; for more information, please contact me directly at
